Why I do this work

My passion for this work began when I was just 19 years old, working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Those early experiences in healthcare, standing alongside patients in some of their most vulnerable moments, gave me a deep respect for the human spirit and a lasting connection to the medical field.

Around the same time, my first Introduction to Psychology class opened a new door: a fascination with the inner world, the unseen experiences shaping people’s lives. It was in those moments, both in the classroom and at the bedside, that I realized true healing required attention to the whole person, not just their symptoms.

I spent seven years as a CNA and the last four were in a mental health hospital, facilitating group therapy for high-acuity patients. There, I witnessed firsthand the profound importance of integrated care, the ways emotional pain, physical health, relationships, and meaning were intertwined. This experience deepened my commitment and led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and, later, a PhD in Medical Family Therapy.

Alongside my professional journey, I have been shaped by personal experiences; walking with friends and family members as they sought healing across emotional, relational, physical, and spiritual dimensions. These stories, both personal and professional, have solidified my belief that healing is never one-dimensional.

I do this work because I believe every story deserves to be honored. Because true growth happens when the mind, body, relationships, and spirit are all invited into the process.

Guided Narratives was born out of this belief: to create spaces where reflection leads to resilience, where integration leads to wholeness, and where individuals, families, and communities can move forward with hope and meaning.
